We are a wonderfully wacky bunch of five: four fabulous furballs and their ever-so-human, frolicking through life and leaving a glittering path of sand and slobber in our wake. Sure, we could rattle on about our glorious past, but let’s be real—who’s actually interested? The juicy bits are how we all ended up in this delightful circus and the outrageous shenanigans we’ve got brewing for the future!
We’re working for a registered charity rescue, but don’t get it twisted—this blog is Nope, absolutely NOT (seriously, I’m talking a big bold “NOT” here, LOL!) officially or unofficially tied to the charity. Sure, we might drop the rescue’s name now and then for some street cred, but that’s just us living on the edge. We emphasized “NOT”, crossing our paws in hopes the Board Committee doesn’t toss the human to the pound and lock that door tight!
Meet Mike, our fabulous Greyhound diva—because let’s face it, sighthounds are less dogs and more wild cats in a dog costume! He hails from a hunting family in Oxford, Canterbury, and honestly, his Greyhound hunting dad posing on top of the hill made royalty look like commoners!
Ruby, our resident aristocrat and the fanciest Hungarian Vizsla from Sugar Vizslas line you’ll ever meet, struts around like she owns the place (any place!). Mike, in his youth, decided he’d only befriend Vizslas— so there came Ruby! It turns out, though, that Mike wasn’t really vibing with this particular Vizsla! Who knew sighthound drama could be so entertaining and maddening in the same time?
Then there’s Jasper and Blue, two consecutive foster fails whose favorite pastime is giving each other the side eye (I know, I know…)
Jasper – a dazzling blend of Border Collie and Huntaway purebreeds, from a young litter dumped in the bush like leftovers. After his posh well-behaved litter was presented, I was told “… and here is this one: THIS ONE is a nightmare!” And guess what? He stayed.
And then there’s Blue, our Opotiki Pound special, a Maltese x German Shepherd x Siberian Husky glorious creation (poor Maltese!)—a white tiny furball with sky-blue eyes who got a one-way ticket to the pound when he was just a wee little thing. He also stayed.
More about each of them in the links, but this is who we are! Did I forget something? Oh right… I’m Dora, your friendly European breeds cross, teetering on the edge of “manypaws syndrome” (when not diving stright into it). We should probably also introduce Charlie, our charming campervan who at times steals the show – in particular when he lets us down in the sand and mud and an avalanche of profanity.
